From 2008 the Dragonfly 800 is no longer in production
The Dragonfly 800 (26') was originally designed in 1986 as the Dragonfly 800 MKII, but at that time with fixed beams only. In 1989 Borge and Jens Quorning designed and developed the so-called Swing Wing system and the classic Dragonfly 800 was their first trimaran with this unique folding system.
The Dragonfly 800 Swing Wing is a superior performance cruising trimaran,
aerodynamically designed to maximize use of wind while maintaining
ultra-responsive control.
Brilliant engineering with over 50 years of boat building experience
and race-proven technology combine to create this one-of-a-kind
design offering thrilling acceleration, close-winded performance
and
speeds up to 20+
knots. The high buoyancy amas and "U" shaped hull knife through
the waves at low heeling angles leaving all competitors in her wake.
With an impressive
racing record and several hundred boats sailing all over the world,
it is no wonder the Dragonfly is the hottest boat on the race course.
From the rocky coasts of Scandinavia to the tropical beaches of the Florida
Keys, coastal cruising or inland lakes, the Dragonfly is only limited
to where you
want to take it. The superb attention to detail and common sense design
provides an easy-to-trailer, easy-to-sail trimaran of unparalleled quality.
All sail
handling controls including a unique single-line reefing system are
led to the security
of a large, roomy cockpit - the sailing characteristics and ample deck
space give the Dragonfly the look and feel of a much larger boat. Sun on
the trampolines, sail up onto the beach, enjoy a swim off the transom or retire
to the spacious,
teak-trimmed
cabin.
When you look at the Dragonfly, one characteristic makes her stand
out among her competitors. She is a strikingly beautiful boat with
graceful
lines and
elegant details. The Danish, historically known for their rugged,
sea-worthy boats, have
always made aesthetics a major consideration in their designs. Carrying
on this tradition, they have successfully combined high-tech performance
with
the sleek
appealing looks a sailboat should have. Now that trimarans have proven
themselves
in the sailing industry, more choices are available to the buyer.
It is clear
the Dragonfly
is the boat of choice among experienced sailors.
The Dragonfly is ingeniously laid-out, and equipped with the best
quality Danish deck gear such as Andersen winches and Frederiksen
blocks. A big performance edge comes from the sturdy, rotating, single-spreader
mast, which provides a maximum wing profile. Designed to provide
optimum performance, the fractional (3/4 rigged) spar is fitted with
a full-battened
racing-quality
mainsail by Elvstrom Sails. A roller-furling mylar jib provides excellent
upwind performance and maintains its shape even when reefed. There
is a unique single-line
double reefing system operated from the cockpit and lazy jacks for
ease of mainsail handling. Barber haulers leading to the amas offering
infinite
adjustability
of
sail trim, making the Dragonfly a joy to sail.
In less than a minute, the amas are simply winched in from the cockpit,
pulling them snug against the mainhull. The boat remains extremely
stable and the decks
are accessible the full length of the boat, making dockside boarding
safe and easy. While folded, she is easy to pull into a standard
slip and can
remain
folded without fear of fouling the topsides, for even retracted,
it maintains the normal
waterline.
The Dragonfly 800 was offered in two versions - the Cruising and the Racing version. The actual boat is exactly the same, and the difference is in the sails and rigging.
