Multihull Solutions Ltd was established in 2005 by Al Wood, who is experienced in both designing and racing multihulls. He has sailed over 25,000 miles offshore (including 2 Round Britain races and a transatlantic crossing on multihulls) since building his first boat, a Mirror dinghy at the age of 14, and is passionate about multihull sailing and racing.
Qualifying as an industrial designer led to a career in marine design, working for clients including Broom Boats, Falcon, Northshore and KKG. He also co-organised an international seminar on offshore multihull racing, and designed a 36ft wheelchair accessible catamaran for a UK charity. He has also undertaken projects for Ellen MacArthur’s Offshore Challenges and the Volvo Round the World Race.
He has sailed a variety of boats including most production multihull brands and many custom designs, from micro-multihulls to the spectacular Extreme 40 and maxi-catamarans (and even the odd monohull!). His racing has included multihull class wins in the 1998 2-handed Round Britain, RORC Round Britain and Cowes-St Malo, Round the Island and Scottish Peaks races on a variety of catamarans and trimarans from 26ft to 50ft.
When the time came to own a multihull for both cruising and club racing, this experience meant there was only one boat in the running: a Dragonfly.
Given this background, and as an enthusiastic Dragonfly owner, Al was delighted to accept Quorning Boats ApS invitation to become the UK dealer for Dragonfly trimarans in 2005.
We are always willing to talk multihulls, so if there is any advice
you require, please drop us a line.
